Spring Cleaning!

There are lots of theories of where the tradition of Spring Cleaning originated and regardless of its true origins; I am always happy to partake. There is something so cathartic about scouring the house from top to bottom once a year. It helps chase the winter blues away, keeps the moths from setting up shop in the corners of your closet and also allows us take a critical look at all the things in the garage, attic, or closet that we don’t use on a regular basis. These day there are lots of ways to move forward with that clean-out and maybe do a good deed or make some money along the way.

I get lots of calls from people who are overwhelmed with “stuff” and they always want to know the best way to deal with it so here are some suggestions for making the right decision on what to do with what you no longer need.

Do you have some great furniture pieces which are still in good condition? If so, you should look into consigning them. There are lots of shops in Huntington Beach now; Sparrow’s Nest loves vintage and mid-century modern furniture, accessories, and retro clothing and we can give you a recommendation for other local shops which might be right for your furniture no matter what style it is.

If you have lots of little items, clothing, and an array of household goods, none of which would be priced at more than $50, it sounds like a yard sale would be perfect for you. Look into any neighborhood sales which might be coming up soon in order to drive more traffic to your sale. You can even have a charity sale and donate the proceeds.

Collectible items such as dolls, sport memorabilia, and glassware are best sold on craig’s list or ebay. If you can’t list these items yourself you should do a Google search and see if anyone nearby provides this service. They usually take a percentage of the sale price as payment for listing the items for you.

If you truly have an entire household worth of items to sell including furniture and smalls I recommend giving Grasons Co. a call to see if they think hosting an estate sale is the way to go. They do a great job and can help take care of an entire household in a matter of days, especially helpful if you have inherited a a loved ones home and everything in it.

    I was turned onto Sparrow’s Nest by a family member and I just love this place! (Oh and I love Tammy just as much). Sweet, unique, vintage, reasonable pieces that will catch your eye and your heart!
